Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:

  • Each team includes just eight real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for gamers looking for different ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Responses: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else details everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Community Input

All that said, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
