Canada's Blue Jays Secure World Series Matchup Against the Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden World Series following 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the ALCS.
Down by two runs, Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh, propelling the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the upcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, Toronto, the nation," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now connected for 23 October home runs, placing him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that moment other than George Springer with his playoff prowess," said Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the sole team that has never reached in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it hurts" after his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but praised their performance in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this one," he remarked.
The Blue Jays secured the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
