Iran is willing to restart nuclear talks with the United States as long as it is handled with "dignity" and "honor", Iran's top diplomat has announced.

Abbas Araghchi said only diplomacy worked, and revealed new appeals had come from mediators to resume negotiations with the Trump administration. He said Iran possessed no unreported enrichment locations, and Tehran had not yet reached a point to permit the UN nuclear inspectorate to visit struck enrichment centers for security reasons.

Navigating a Difficult Path

Araghchi is navigating a challenging path since Iran does not want be seen to be operating from a position of weakness, and he insisted repeatedly that Iran had emerged more powerful defensively and emotionally from the Israeli-US attack on its nuclear sites in June.

He was talking at a strategic meeting in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to process nuclear material domestically that it will never give up" – the primary cause of the stalemate in the earlier negotiations.

Prior Talks Abruptly Ended

The earlier sessions of negotiations between the US and Iran were brought to an abrupt and hostile conclusion on 12 June when the Israeli government, with US support, struck Iran's enrichment centers in a fortnight-long engagement that culminated with the US president asserting the facilities had been eliminated. Subsequently, European countries exercised their right to reinstate global restrictions, but Iran maintains they have not had a significant effect.

Perfect Agreement Suggested

Iran's diplomats stated they felt they had achieved a "perfect agreement" to the nuclear fuel concern in earlier negotiations, when it was decided an domestic cooperative with Washington's engagement could refine atomic fuel. Each party would have been able to assert triumph since local refinement would have continued and the US could be assured that Iran's enrichment initiative was solely for peaceful purposes.

It had not been settled in the talks that Washington's technical specialists could function within Iranian territory, but that was a natural consequence of the consortium proposal. Representatives stated three times they had reached agreement with Trump's special envoy the American negotiator only for the agreement to collapse due to "detractors in America".

Current Situation

Tehran representatives stated the partnership proposal was now no longer available, but it seems highly likely the proposal could be revived in certain ways if talks resume.

Trump recently stated he had been obtaining communications that Iran desired to restart talks, but in private Iran's diplomats say they are not yet obtaining clear proposals from America either straightforwardly or from significant local go-betweens, such as the Qatari government, Egypt, Oman and the Saudi kingdom. The Tehran's diplomatic corps has been charged of inactivity in the aftermath of the US president's straightforward manner, but Tehran asserts diplomacy is not part of a performance.

Negotiating Position

In his speech to the gathering, designed to portray the US as a hegemonic power that misuses the notion of worldwide standards, the foreign minister said the two-week conflict demonstrated the conflict could not be resolved by combat operations. He asserted the strikes started with a Washington's ultimatum for an total Iran submission and ended with an absolute demand for a halt to hostilities.

In what is characterized by Tehran representatives as the battle of repair and recovery, Araghchi claimed he was assured Iran's defence capabilities "are considerably enhanced than before 13 or 14 June of this year. All our capabilities have been reestablished. We gained many lessons from this conflict; we have identified our personal limitations and the shortcomings of the enemy."

He stated: "We effectively endured this war. Our atomic expertise, which they planned to destroy, continues to exist. The sites and gear, if destroyed, will be rebuilt; what is crucial is the resolve of the nation of Iran and then the national cohesion that they aimed at, but did not succeed to shatter. The Iranian people have become more powerful, more cohesive, and more backing of the government and the state in the aftermath of this invasion."
