The Hit Drama Announced for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-part series written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The previous season concluded in 2021 with a finale that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to combat misconduct within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans track the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the new season will hit screens.
The finale of series six drew the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
Nevertheless, the corporation announced on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
